The steel ingots are casted in cast iron moulds. Steel scrap is melted in electric induction furnace at a temperature of 1650 degrees Celsius. Ingots can be casted as per various chemical composition as per the requirement of end product. Molten metal is poured in the tundish, from where it flows in the moulds through refractory arranged on a base plate. on which ingot moulds are stacked. This process of pouring to cast ingot in mould is called bottom pouring since molten metal goes first at the bottom and then rises in the moulds. After tapping ingot moulds are dressed for re-rolling in a re-rolling mill.
